Allemaengel Plein Air Challenge is open to all artists 18 and over. Youth participants from elementary through high school enrollment age may enter the youth categories. Only work completed on validated surfaces between Thursday, October 10 and Saturday, October 12, 2024 will be considered for judging.
By submitting work for entry, the artist agrees to allow representations of work to be shown and reproduced for publicity purposes.
-
Canvases and other surfaces must be stamped at check-in. The backs of hardboard should be gessoed or otherwise have a white area for stamping. Alternate validation will be allowed for watercolors. You may have stamped as many surfaces as you anticipate using. Artwork submitted on an unstamped surface will not be accepted at intake.
CHECK-IN WILL BE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10TH FROM 7-10 AM AT THE ALBANY TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 404 OLD PHILLY PIKE, KEMPTON, PA. -
Subjects may include landscapes, wildlife, streetscapes, architecture, people etc. in any outdoor setting in, or seen from Albany Township and Kempton, Berks County, Pennsylvania. All work must be original and be created primarily on location. ATHS organizers reserve the right to not display work that is not produced within these guidelines or that is otherwise deemed inappropriate.
-
Any medium used to create 2-D art–oils, acrylics, watercolors, pencil, pastel, charcoal, fabric etc.–is acceptable. Variances may be allowed with the permission of the event organizers.
-
Maximum size is 30”, including frame, along the longest edge. You will be able to submit at least three pieces for judging, possibly more once additional sponsor-themed awards have been finalized. (This should be announced by July 1.) Firmly mounted on the reverse of each piece must be a sheet with your name and the title of the artwork. Artwork should be framed and wired.
Gallery-wrapped canvases (at least 1” deep) will be accepted if the edges are finished and dry–i.e. acrylics are okay, wet oil paints are not. -
You are encouraged to enter label information in our updated online system as you complete each piece. All label information must be submitted by 8:00pm on Friday. Your labels will be waiting for you at intake on Saturday morning between 9-12noon. You will select which pieces to hang in your designated space. You will not be required to hang all pieces for which you submit label information. All hanging must be completed by noon.
FRAMED ART MUST BE DELIVERED TO THE KEMPTON FIRE COMPANY SOCIAL HALL, 2461 ROUTE 143, KEMPTON, PA. -
All 2-D work entered must be submitted framed, wired and presented with a professional appearance. Gallery-wrapped (and wired) canvases with finished edges are also permissible. Work that is submitted with an unfinished or unprofessional appearance may be disqualified from the exhibition.
-
Once your work has been validated at Intake on Saturday, October 12 from 9 am - 12 noon, a volunteer will guide and help take your work to your designated panel, the location of which will have been selected by random drawing. Hooks and hammers will be provided but for efficiency, you may bring your own tools. You will tape your label to the frame.
-
All artwork exhibited must be offered for sale. A commission of twenty five percent (25%) will be retained for each piece sold during Saturday’s artist reception October 12 at the Kempton Fire Company Social Hall. Work that is not sold at that time, but that is sold within 30 days to a contact made at the event, will also be subject to the 25% commission. We value the honor system.
